Silent Dictation is a fun activity that helps children practise vocabulary, reading and writing in English in a very visual and interactive way. The children don’t hear the words from the teacher (as in a normal dictation), but instead, they look at images and work with written words themselves. This helps them to connect words with images, reinforce spelling, and become more confident in English.
I have created this activity in 3 levels, so it can adapt to the needs and skills of each child:
- Basic Level: Children match the full-color picture card to the card with the faded image and written word using velcro.
- Intermediate level: Children see the image and the word written in a lighter, transparent color. They have to trace over the existing letters.
- Expert level: Children only see the image. They have to think of the word in English and write it correctly on their own.
