This or That (Christmas Edition)

Get your students moving, having fun and getting to know each other with this THIS or That Christmas Edition activity.

This or That is an easy-to-play word game in which you must choose between two things. Even if neither option appeals to you, you have to choose one or the other. That's the fun of it.

The basic way to play This or That is to take turns asking one another questions. So, Student A asks Student B a question, which Student B answers. Then, Student B asks Student C a different question, which Student C answers. And so on. You will need at least two people to play, though you can have as many as you want.

Other variations on This or That game:

• Give each person ten seconds, and if they do not answer withing that time frame, they are out.
• Put students in teams; they must choose one option to agree withing ten seconds.
• Try to predict which option the person will choose and earn a point if you are right.
• Create a story (or sentences) that includes all the chosen words.
• Tell everyone to stand up for the first option, and sit down for the second. You then ask which closed questions for the students to respond to.
